We are proud to be partnering with Barker Trailers, an industry institution that has been manufacturing quality heavy fabricated transport equipment since 1974. Based in Woodend, the company has been a cornerstone of trailer manufacturing for 51 years. From humble beginnings, they have evolved into a business producing world-class semi-trailers and providing customers with reliable transport solutions.
Due to an upcoming departure, the company is seeking to appoint an innovative Engineering Manager with industry expertise to their team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will lead a team of Design and Production Engineers responsible for developing CAD drawings, specifications, and job packs for production. You will also oversee all regulatory compliance, as well as lead and contribute to product innovation, process improvement, and standardisation initiatives.

To be considered for this position, you will bring proven leadership experience as an Engineering Manager or in an equivalent managerial role within the semi-trailer, heavy-vehicle, or related manufacturing sector.

- Overseeing adherence to Australian Design Regulations (ADRs) while maintaining required systems and documentation
- Leading product development projects that support the company’s competitive advantage, continuous improvement, and value proposition to clients
- Driving engineering and process excellence through best-practice systems, design methodologies, and software tools
- Leading, mentoring, and developing your team by building capability through support, professional development, and structured coaching
- Actively engaging with other departments (production, sales, supply chain, and customers) to represent and support the engineering function
To be considered for this position, you will bring proven leadership experience as an Engineering Manager or in an equivalent managerial role within the semi-trailer, heavy-vehicle, or related manufacturing sector.
Other prerequisites include:
- Strong technical grounding in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, and regulatory compliance for road transport equipment
- Demonstrated success leading teams to deliver complex, high-precision engineered products in a fast-paced production environment
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with a disciplined, data-driven approach to decision-making
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility across technical teams, production, and executive leadership
