Our client is a well-established Australian transport and logistics business with a large, predominantly blue-collar workforce. Operating across multiple sites and award structures, they pride themselves on a supportive team culture and a commitment to getting the job done right.
 
The Role
Based in Altona, this is a senior standalone payroll role responsible for processing end-to-end payroll for a large workforce across multiple awards and EBAs. You’ll be the go-to payroll expert for the business, working closely with HR and management to ensure accurate and compliant payroll delivery each cycle using Employment Hero.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • End-to-end payroll processing for a large workforce across multiple pay cycles
  • Interpretation and application of multiple Awards and Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
  • Maintaining employee records, leave balances and superannuation in Employment Hero
  • Ensuring compliance with payroll tax, STP, superannuation and workers’ compensation obligations
  • Preparing payroll journals and reconciling payroll to the general ledger
  • Managing the employee lifecycle in Employment Hero including onboarding, terminations and changes
  • Acting as the first point of contact for payroll queries from employees and management
  • Supporting year-end payroll processes and assisting with audits and reporting as required
  • Other ad-hoc duties to support the team
The Person
  • Demonstrated experience processing end-to-end payroll for a large, complex workforce
  • Solid experience interpreting and applying Awards and/or EBAs – transport or logistics background advantageous
  • Experience with Employment Hero (or similar cloud-based payroll platform)
  • Sound knowledge of STP, superannuation, payroll tax and workers’ compensation obligations
  • Close attention to detail with strong organisational skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Confident communicator; comfortable handling sensitive employee queries with discretion
  • Able to work autonomously and take ownership of the payroll function
